A McDonald’s customer’s discovery about their neighbourhood ended up going viral. In a six-second video, Kayleigh Thornton (@kayleigh_thornton) filmed herself at the McDonald’s drive-through. The screen read: ‘Why is it every time I order a quarter they ask me to pull over? The screen read: ‘Why is it every time I order a quarter they ask me to pull forward? I mean, every time.

Other commenters said the same thing, and they were not happy. ‘Every time,’ complained one. I just want my quarter!”

“They’re putting me in the face,” wrote another.

And a third added: “They tell me to shoot in the face every time! It doesn’t matter what the order is. It’s driving me nuts.”

Others, however, explained the reason for this behaviour. McDonald’s apparently forces customers to “pull forward”, especially for the quarter-pound hamburgers, because they are fresh.

In McDonald’s terms, “pulling ahead” means you can’t get your whole order at the last drive-through counter. You have to wait for your order to be brought to you in the car park and then “pull ahead” there. But as Kayleigh says, most McDonald’s orders are delivered complete at the last drive-through window. So why is it different for the quarters?

So, how exactly are McDonald’s hamburgers made?

Their website says the meat is minced, frozen and refrozen to “preserve flavour”. Then, in the restaurant, the burgers are cooked on both sides on hot plates. (Via) (Via)

But commentators say McDonald’s Quarter Pounders have actually been prepared fresh off the grill since 2018. Back in 2018, McDonald’s USA president Chris Kempczinski said that switching to fresh beef Quarter Pounder burgers was the biggest change to the system and restaurant operations since All Day Breakfast. He also said that they’d been listening to their customers and improving their operations to make a better McDonald’s. We’re proud to offer our customers superior burgers. We’re proud to offer our customers a hotter, juicier one-pound burger with the speed and convenience they expect from us.”
