“Yasss, let’s see the paper face!”
A young woman has shared her joy after discovering she can film in movie mode using her iPhone’s front-facing camera.
Tiffany Flores (@tiffyfirz) posted her latest discovery on TikTok, where her video has been viewed over 26,000 times. In the short clip, the girl sits in her car and records herself using the front-facing camera on her phone.
She asks her viewers if they also didn’t know you could make movies with a front-facing camera.
Cinema mode is a feature of iPhone cameras that lets you record videos with a shallow depth of field. This means the background is blurred and the subject is in focus. So, even if you’re not a professional director, you can get cinematic quality from your home videos.Flores says the quality is excellent.
Want to know how to use movie mode on your iPhone’s front-facing camera?
Just follow these steps and you’ll be ready to use it!
First of all, open the camera app and swipe your finger on movie mode at the bottom. Then tap the camera toggle icon to use the front-facing camera – that’s it! Then, holding the camera in landscape mode, tap the little arrow on the left to bring up the different video settings. (Via)
Here you can control functions like depth of field, zoom, exposure and flash. When you’re happy with everything, press the red button to start recording.
You can actually shoot a movie with your iPhone, which is pretty cool.
It might be a new feature, but it’s been used by filmmakers for years to capture high-quality video. In fact, loads of Hollywood movies have been filmed with iPhones.
Sean Baker’s Tangerine (2015) was one of the first big movies to be shot entirely with an iPhone. He used an iPhone 5S with an anamorphic adapter to get a wider image than the phone’s lens allowed, and a Steadicam Smoothee gimbal mount. (Via)
More recently, British filmmaker Danny Boyle shot 28 Years Later (2025) with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, but with “a lot of equipment and improvements […] that most regular smartphone filmmakers and cameramen don’t normally have access to”. (Via)
People seem to really like the iPhone camera.
They left lots of comments on Flores’ post! Lots said they didn’t know the iPhone could shoot such good video, that they were surprised! Thanks for sharing!
There were also many comments from people surprised by the beauty of the tiktoker and the fact that, thanks to the phone’s recording function, it was possible to see all the details.
One user said, “Yasss, let’s see this face in cinematics,” and another commented, “Sheeeee u r cinematic mami damn.”
