Can I get my money back?
The price of petrol has pretty much stayed the same over the past year, with an average price per gallon of about $3.04. (Via)

But as everything seems to be getting more expensive in the US, people are trying to spend less money on petrol.

Sometimes they put something in the tank to make it last longer. Other times, they pay for gas early to stay within the limit.

But this last option can be tricky: what if someone overpays for gas when they’ve already paid in advance?

Ever wondered what happens when you pay too much for gas?

In a video that’s gone viral, TikTok user Alexa Curtis (@alexacurtisunfiltered) asks her viewers this question.

She explains that she has a question: “What do I do when I pay for gas in advance and can only fill up with $29 when the car requires $40? Do I get my money back?”

Comments poured in and people began sharing their experiences.

One person said that when they used to work at a gas station, if you used your card, they would give it back to you (there’s no fixed time limit, it depends on the card company when they give you your money back). If it’s cash, they give it back! If you need a receipt, I can make you a new one with the updated price.

At the gas station where I work, it doesn’t matter if you pay with cash or card, you have to go back to get change because our systems don’t process change from cards.

“If it’s a card and you pay at the pump or inside the station, choosing debit, you always have to go back and check, because the difference has probably gone to the cashier,” said a third party.

So, what’s the truth?

The experts say you don’t have to stress about paying too much in advance or by card. Whatever you pay extra, you’ll get back in the form of credit on your card, but it’ll take a while to go through. (Via)

Just be careful, if you paid in cash, you’ll have to go back to the shop to get your change, otherwise they won’t know how to refund you. (Via)

If you’re not sure about getting your money back, you can always go to the shop and ask them to put the money back on your card.
