Disability rights activists are saying that an old photo of Endeavor Air’s female crew shows that promoting diversity was the reason for Monday’s forced landing at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport.
There’s some dramatic footage of the Delta flight, which is operated by its subsidiary Endeavor Air, overturning and catching fire during landing.
Fortunately, all 80 people on board survived, but 21 were injured.
Delta have said that one person is still in hospital, but they expect her to make it.
We don’t know much about the crew, but Delta CEO Ed Bastian said they were experienced pilots. He also said that ‘there is a level of safety at Delta’ and that ‘all these pilots are trained for these conditions’. (Via)
But that hasn’t stopped people criticising the airline for focusing on gender diversity over safety.
There’s even a photo of a female Endeavour Air crew member that was posted in 2022 that’s doing a lot to fuel these accusations, even though the reason for the plane having to land is unknown. (Via)
The old Delta post said: “Fasten your seatbelts ladies and gentlemen, your flight will be pilotless today. #girlpower.” A right-wing X account reacted to the photo writing: “Breaking the glass ceiling. Literally. (Via) (Via)
“Tighten your belts,” someone joked. (Via)
“Watch your hiring before your company goes bankrupt,” someone else joked. (Via)
Others joked about women’s ability to drive well: “I’ve seen plenty of women overturn cars (texting while driving, falling into a ditch, taking a turn too fast, etc.), but overturning an entire airplane? That is female power at a level previously thought impossible.” (Via) (Via)
But not everyone is convinced: “This image is from 2022, right? It doesn’t seem to make much sense to him,” said another person. (Via)
