A woman’s TikTok video about her neighbour rejecting her offer of free-range eggs has gone viral. In the current economic climate, where the price of eggs seems to go up by the day, an offer like Lee’s (@truecrimewithleeleeelee) seems too good to be true.(Via)

But Lee says his neighbour ended up rejecting his request, claiming the content creator’s eggs were dirty and the yolks had no colour.

Lee even wrote in the text overlay and caption of his video that people are so ungrateful. By Monday, his video had been viewed more than 268,300 times. (Via)

So, was there a problem with the eggs?

Even though he doesn’t mention it in his TikTok bio, Lee apparently raises his own chickens and gets his eggs from there. He says a neighbour recently complained about the price of eggs and offered to give him some, but Lee says the neighbour wasn’t thrilled to receive eggs that weren’t store-bought.

According to Lee, the neighbour described Lee’s eggs as dirty and complained about the colour of the yolk, which was more orange than yellow. (Via)

“That means they’re fresher,” Lee says of his eggs.

He adds, “Did you know that when eggs are store-bought from a farm, they sit in a truck for days? Then they go through a processing plant.”

Ultimately, Lee says she can’t understand why her “ungrateful” neighbour rejected her.Her excuse, at least, was that she didn’t feel “comfortable” eating chicken feed from Lee’s backyard, the woman continues.

“I hope she’s comfortable paying $12 a box at the supermarket, because I’m not going to give it to her anymore,” Lee says.

Egg prices are going up

There’s a new strain of bird flu doing the rounds, and that’s the reason why egg prices are going up. Some restaurants have already put up their prices, like Waffle House who announced a 50-cent surcharge per egg earlier this month. (Via)

And it doesn’t look like egg prices are going to come down anytime soon. CNN says egg prices went up 14% between November and December, and they’re predicting a 20% rise this year. (Via) (Via)

Back in February, CBS News had a chart that showed the price of a dozen eggs went up 219% between 2019 and 2025 (from $1.55 to $4.95).But that’s not all. In some places, 12 eggs can cost up to $7, according to Axios.

Bird flu has forced farmers to slaughter millions of chickens a month, and because the disease is deadly, the government has to cull entire flocks of birds when the virus is detected. (Via)

“I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news, but we’ll have this disease for some time. Until it’s detected, the egg supply is unfortunately going to be very, very limited,” Emily Metz, president and CEO of the American Egg Board, told CNN earlier this month. (Via)

Viewers don’t understand why the “ungrateful” neighbour turned down the free food.

In the comments on Lee’s video, several people asked why anyone would refuse free food, especially expensive eggs.

“They offered the girl organic food and she complained,” one woman asked.

“Ayo, who refuses free fresh eggs?” asked another.

“It’s crazy,” a third onlooker said of Lee’s story. “They’re fresh from the source.”

Viewers were insistent that farm-fresh eggs are the best. One commenter said, “People think an egg is an egg, but it isn’t. Store-bought eggs are weeks old, and you can see the difference. Farm-fresh eggs are the best.

“Another woman said, “I like fresh eggs. They taste better than store-bought because the hens are better fed.

The quality is also much better than store-bought eggs.”

Some people also said they’d be happy to get eggs from Lee.

‘Honey, I’d love to have half a dozen,’ wrote one viewer.

‘I’d take the ones he refused,’ joked another.
