Who has 10 hours to wait for a delivery?

You might have seen the new Amazon truck that arrived in your neighbourhood or the delivery bike that left you speechless. The video of the new Amazon truck left everyone speechless.
Amazon delivery bike trucks
There’s been a video doing the rounds of an Amazon driver in a strange truck in New York. The driver was approached by the video’s creator, @xeverydaypeople.
“Hey, how’s this?” the driver asks, “You pedal on battery, don’t you need a license?” “No,” the driver replies, after confirming that you have to pedal with the car running. The side of the truck says “E-Assisted Vehicle”.
@xeverydaypeople goes behind the truck to point out that it has no license plate. The truck doesn’t even have side doors.
People watching the show aren’t too convinced by this pedal-powered truck.
One comment says, “Save on fuel costs and let the machine do the driving.”
Another commenter says, “Amazon doesn’t want you to rest while driving to the next stop.”
“It’s a clever way to get around traffic rules,” says another.
“I get that the truck’s pretty cramped because of all the stops and traffic, but could we maybe fit it with a heater or an enclosed cab for those cold days?
As someone else said, it also requires more effort on the driver’s part than driving a truck because they have to pedal to start the vehicle.”
The @xeverydaypeople video has received over 113,000 likes and over 2,100,000 views on Saturday.
Why bike trucks?
There’s not much info about them in the US, but it seems they’ve been around for a while elsewhere. I read something about them in 2022 in The Verge, it said they use a similar one in the UK for Amazon deliveries. The vans are pretty much the same as the ones seen in New York. The article says these vans are part of Amazon’s sustainability efforts.
According to a UK press release, “Our new electric cargo bikes are part of Amazon’s commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions across its operations by 2040, ten years ahead of the Paris Agreement. This is great news for our team and our customers in the city, who will receive their deliveries with zero emissions.” The e-bikes are part of a £300 million investment to cut Amazon’s UK transport emissions. Want to avoid the congestion charge?
The @xeverydaypeople video says: “NYC’s newest vehicle. No congestion charge avoided.”
It’s just come to light that New York has introduced a congestion charge for anyone entering Manhattan after 60th Street. (Via)
‘There is no congestion tax. The rich just get richer,’ someone said.
‘There is no congestion tax,’ said someone else.
