“Luckily I didn’t bin mine, ha ha!”
One girl said she’d just been about to throw her box of AirPods away, but then realised there was something else inside: a charging cable.
Diondra (@diondra88) said in a video she didn’t realise her AirPods came with a charging cable. “Why didn’t anyone tell me? I almost threw the box,” she wrote in the video caption.
There’s a reason she might not have known about the charging cable though: not all AirPods come with one.
At the time of writing, the video had more than 862,800 views.

For example, the AirPods 4 and other models don’t include one, but older ones might. Apple’s website says that the AirPods 4 doesn’t come with a USB-C charging cable or power adapter. But don’t worry, if you need one, you can get it. (Via)
The Lightning connector that Apple briefly showed viewers connects to the AirPods case, while the USB end connects to a power source.
AirPods Max is another AirPods model that includes a charger. Apple Support says you need to “connect the USB-C or Lightning cable that came with the AirPods Max to the headphones on the bottom right, then plug the other end of the cable into a charger or USB port.” They also say that how you charge the headphones depends on the model. For example, if you have a model with a USB-C port, you can use a USB-C cable or a USB-C to USB cable, while if you have a model with a Lightning port, you can use a USB-C to Lightning cable or a USB to Lightning cable. Why don’t AirPods come with a charging cable?
Apple hasn’t said anything about changing the packaging, but it’s possible that it stopped including replacement cables because it thought users already had one at home. If that’s true, including one in the box would be an unnecessary and wasteful expense, as one Engadget writer claimed. (Via)
This isn’t the first time, either. Back in 2022, they stopped including a USB cable for the Apple TV Siri charger.
Some people think it’s a good thing that Apple no longer includes these gadgets and accessories in their boxes.
A Digital Trends journalist said that by not including the charging cable, the company produces less material, has less weight, and is ultimately cheaper, and also generates less waste. (Via)
People who saw the video weren’t impressed with the Apple customer’s discovery.
In the comments, loads of people said they already knew that some AirPods come with chargers, so they weren’t surprised.
